Calculating The Cleanie – GW11

Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline the best options on a weekly basis.

We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek.  Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!

Top Tip: Leicester City

The Team: Having correctly backed Burnley for clean sheet glory last week, this week the Fantasy Football Chaps are backing Leicester for our guaranteed clean sheet as they travel to Stoke.  Leicester were on top form as they comfortably kept Everton from scoring, and in the process took their clean sheet tally to three for the season.  Many Draft Fantasy Football managers will be turning to Leicester’s midfielders and forwards, but it is also worth taking a punt on their defenders.  A change in manager could well be the catalyst the 2015-16 Premier League champions need; and with Stoke coming under fire for a lack of goals scored, this gameweek is a good opportunity to jump onto the Leicester train.

The Players: If a defender is what you require, then look no further than Christian Fuchs.  This 2015-16 Draft Fantasy Football legend could well be a free agent in your league as early season form would have put many Draft Fantasy Football manager off.  But with one assist and six Fantasy Premier League bonus points so far, his name will surely begin attracting attention.   On the other side of the park, Danny Simpson has been a mainstay of the side, along with England International Harry Maguire, who can also boast a goal to his name.  However it is Benjamin Chilwell that really caught the eye in last weekends fixture against Everton.  New Leicester manager Claude Puel deployed Chilwell, a left-back by trade, in the left midfield role.  If this is Puel’s way forward, then Chilwell will be a highly sought after acquisition as the increased chance of assists will return excellent scores.  A word of warning for this week, Chilwell is likely to be a doubt with a knock.

The Opposition: Stoke have come under fire this season for a lack of fire power upfront, having failed to score more than two goals in a game and sitting in 14th position in the Premier League table.  Of Stoke’s players, only Mame Biram Diouf can really be considered a form player in this seasons Draft Fantasy Football; and Diouf is often deployed at wing back.

The Prospects: Looking forward, picking up a Leicester player can potentially offer clean sheet returns in the up and coming fixtures.  With West Ham, Burnley, Newcastle, Southampton, and Crystal Palace all coming up in the next seven fixtures; there is excellent potential in a Leicester defender.

Looking Elsewhere

This week there are quite a few clean sheet opportunities.  Last weeks featured Calculating the Cleanie side Burnley look to be strong contenders away to Southampton.  In the fixture of Swansea vs Brighton has the potential for clean sheet differentials.  From the Swansea side, look to Kyle Naughton and the Brighton duo Shane Duffy and Bruno Saltor Grau have shown excellent form this season.

But it is difficult to look beyond Newcastle for an alternate clean sheet differential to Leicester.  At home to Bournemouth this weekend, Newcastle have been somewhat of a surprise package this season sitting 9th in the Premier League and having kept three clean sheets.  Look to Jamaal Lascelles and wing back Javier Manquillo for that Newcastle cleanie.
