Calculating The Cleanie – GW14

Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline the best options on a weekly basis.

We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek.  Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!

Top Tip: AFC Bournemouth

The Team: We’re backing Bournemouth for the second consecutive gameweek, as they host Burnley during the mid-week fixtures.  It’s now three clean sheets in a row for The Cherries, and they look very solid at the back.  Bournemouth came good for our predictions for GW13, lets hope they can do it again!

The Players: There’s potential the whole way across the Bournemouth backline, with several of their defenders likely to be free agents.  Asmir Begovic would be a great pick-up if your first choice goalkeeper has a tough fixture.  Charlie Daniels is likely to be taken by a fellow Fantasy Football manage due to the fact that he scored a goal earlier in the season.  Look towards Nathan Ake and Steve Cook if you’re looking for one of Eddie Howe’s men.  Simon Francis will return from suspension for GW14, so he could take Adam Smith’s place at right back.

The Opposition: Burnley visit The Vitality stadium, and despite their strong performances, they are struggling a little in front of goal.  Playing just a single striker makes The Clarets very stable at the back, but limits their attacking output.  We’re backing either a narrow win for Bournemouth, or a bore-draw.

The Prospects: Looking forward to future fixtures, Bournemouth play Southamton and Crystal Palace in their next two games, so more clean sheets could be on the way.  Future clean sheets look likely.

Looking Elsewhere

There’s not a whole lot on offer elsewhere for GW14, with a lot of the big teams looking to have banker clean sheets.  West Bromich Albion may be worth a look at home to a struggling Newcastle Utd side.  Without inspirational captain Jamaal Lascelles, and with the strikeforce seriosuly struggling for ideas, Gary Megson’s men may well gain a clean sheet.  All of The Baggies’ defenders are likely to be Draft Fantasy Football free agents.

Brighton & Hove Albion may also be worth a look at home to Crystal Palace.  A solid performance in GW13 away to Manchester United gave us a reminder of their defensive prowess.  Tuesday night’s game will be a feisty one, but Chris Hughton’s side will look to keep The Eagles out and gain a narrow victory. Shane Duffy looks the pick of the Brighton bunch.

📝 Draft Platform 📝

Here at The Fantasy Football Chaps, we’re proud to be pioneer’s for having a Draft Fantasy Football League that runs COMPLETELY OFFLINE!  Check out our article looking into how to make this a reality, and have full control over customising your Draft League!

If this sounds like too much effort, we would highly recommend using an online platform from either the guys at Draft Fantasy or Fantrax.   Draft Fantasy uses a scoring system similar to the standard Official FPL game, where as Fantrax mainly uses the more intelligent scoring system made famous by Togga.  Both offer potential for end of season playoffs, as well as many other options for customisation!
