Calculating The Cleanie – GW16

Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline the best options on a weekly basis.

We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek.  Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!

Top Tip: Brighton & Hove Albion

The Team: This week we’re backing Brighton to gain a clean sheet away to Huddersfield.  Despite being thrashed at home last weekend by Liverpool, The Seagulls have only conceded one goal in the past three away games (which included a trip to Old Trafford).  Brighton have a well organised side, and should have enough to keep out a poor Huddersfield side.

The Players: Shane Duffy is the standout option from the Brighton backline.  He’s started every game, and even gained an assist last time around.  Lewis Dunk is also a good option, but he has a penchant for scoring own goals unfortunately!  Matthew Ryan could be a free agent, and is worth a punt if your first choice goalkeeper has tough fixtures over the Christmas period.

The Opposition: Huddersfield have only scored one goal in their past six games.  They lack the creativity, as well as the quality, to break teams down in the Premier League.  After a strong start, they find themselves in a rut.  Don’t expect them to score this weekend!

The Prospects: Looking forward, picking up a Brighton Chap for your Draft Fantasy Football team could bring further returns in GW18 and 19.  The Seagulls face Tottenham in GW 17, but after that have decent home fixtures against Burnley and Watford.  The likes of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk will surely start every game over Christmas, so they are good options for this period.

Looking Elsewhere

Brighton’s opponents Huddersfield Town are also worth a punt, as that game could very well turn out to be a bore-draw – both struggle to find the back of the net!  Crystal Palace, more specifically Mamadou Sakho; is worth a shot. As outlined in our ‘Hot or Cold‘ page, Sakho is the rock at the heart of the Palace defence. If they keep a clean sheet, he’ll be sure to take the bonus points.  Swansea City could also be on for a clean sheet this weekend, playing a West Brom side who struggle for creativity.

📝 Draft Platform 📝

Here at The Fantasy Football Chaps, we’re proud to be pioneer’s for having a Draft Fantasy Football League that runs COMPLETELY OFFLINE!  Check out our article looking into how to make this a reality, and have full control over customising your Draft League!

If this sounds like too much effort, we would highly recommend using an online platform from either the guys at Draft Fantasy or Fantrax.   Draft Fantasy uses a scoring system similar to the standard Official FPL game, where as Fantrax mainly uses the more intelligent scoring system made famous by Togga.  Both offer potential for end of season playoffs, as well as many other options for customisation!
