Calculating The Cleanie – GW19

Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline the best options on a weekly basis.

We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek.  Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!

Top Tip: West Ham Utd

The Team: This week we’re backing West Ham for our guaranteed clean sheet as they host Newcastle Utd.  With three clean sheets in a row, as well as seven points, The Hammers look rejuvenated under David Moyes.  West Ham have a very talented squad of players, and it seems like they might start living up to their potential.  Several of their players have featured in our Punting For Gold blogs, as well as our Hot or Cold feature, in recent weeks.

The Players: There are options across the whole backline, as many of The Hammers defenders are likely to be free agents.  Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku offer attacking potential down the left hand side, with Masuaku perhaps the stronger option as he’s playing further forward.  Winston Reid is always a strong bet for bonus points, and Angelo Ogbonna has been gaining good stats since his return to the side.  Adrian also provides an option for those Draft Fantasy Football managers seeking a new goalkeeper.

The Opposition: Newcastle started the season well, but are seriously struggling in front of goal.  Having failed to notch in the previous two games, and heavy rotation amongst the attacking players, we’re not expecting much from The Magpies this weekend.  Dwight Gayle has been in decent form, but his supply seems to have dried up.

The Prospects: Looking forward, picking up a West Ham defender should allow you to keep hold of one of these players for the foreseeable future.  The Hammers have a double GW22, due to their GW21 fixture being moved.  If you can afford to hold onto a West Ham defender to bench for the blank GW, we’d highly recommend you got on board the David Moyes train!  Excellent upcoming fixtures.

Looking Elsewhere

Brighton & Hove Albion offer a decent clean sheet potential for GW19, ahead of a home clash with a struggling Watford side.  The Seagulls will be missing the inspirational Shane Duffy through suspension, but have a good chance of gaining a second consecutive shut up.  Watford have Troy Deeney suspended, and an unsettled attacking unit due to recent injuries.

📝 Draft Platform 📝

Here at The Fantasy Football Chaps, we’re proud to be pioneer’s for having a Draft Fantasy Football League that runs COMPLETELY OFFLINE!  Check out our article looking into how to make this a reality, and have full control over customising your Draft League!

If this sounds like too much effort, we would highly recommend using an online platform from either the guys at Draft Fantasy or Fantrax.   Draft Fantasy uses a scoring system similar to the standard Official FPL game, where as Fantrax mainly uses the more intelligent scoring system made famous by Togga.  Both offer potential for end of season playoffs, as well as many other options for customisation!
