The Chaps Review – GW24

Our review of every game from the Premier League weekend… Get the lowdown on all of the action from the eyes of a Draft Fantasy Football expert!

Arsenal

An astonishing first half display from Arsenal, as they stormed to a 4-0 lead at half time.  Nacho Monreal gained 16 points despite only being on the field for 33 minutes!  He was taken off as a precaution, and seems like he’ll be fine for GW25.  Laurent Kosielny scored his first of the season, and Alexandre Lacazette bagged for the first time since GW15!!  New boy Henrikh Mkhitaryan should spark some Draft Fantasy Football interest, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be joining him very soon.  Exciting times for new Draft prospects.

AFC Bournemouth

A decent draw away from home for Bournemouth, as Ryan Fraser scored their only goal of the game.  He features in our Hot List, after some good displays in recent weeks.  Junior Stanislas came off the bench to provide the assist, and Joshua King also made his return with a late substitute appearance.  Lots of prospects to monitor in this Bournemouth side, as they have a good fixture list after GW25.  Jordan Ibe is another one who could prosper.

Brighton & Hove Albion

A heavy defeat at home to Chelsea, and The Seagulls look to be struggling at both ends of the pitch.  New signing Jurgen Locadia is one to monitor over the coming weeks… he looks set to lead the line, and has been in decent scoring form this season.  Add him to the watch list.

Burnley

Another defeat for Burnley, as their form continues to decline.  If you own any of their top assets, it may be worth holding on until GW27 where the fixtures turn for the good.  Chris Wood, Aaron Lennon, and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou could be worth a look if The Clarets can find that winning touch once again.

Chelsea

The Blues were back with a bang after a disappointing few weeks.  Eden Hazard, Willian, and Victor Moses were the stars of the show, as they each gained a double figure haul.  Moses has featured in our Hot List for quite a while.  Sign him up if he’s a free agent in your Draft Fantasy Football League.  Elsewhere, there was another clean sheet for Chelsea, although Andreas Christensen missed out on a clean sheet for the second consecutive game, as he was withdrawn on 57 minutes.

Crystal Palace

Palace succumbed to a heavy defeat away to Arsenal, as the injuries are piling up for The Eagles.  Luka Milivojevic bagged his second goal in three weeks, and Andros Townsend made a swift return to the first team squad, as he was an unused substitute.  The winger is well worth snapping up if he’s a free agent.

Everton

Everton scored a goal!!  For the first time in a while, Everton actually found the back of the net.  Oumar Niasse again scored after coming off the bench, with new boy Theo Walcott providing the assist.  We backed Theo in our Punting For Gold article for GW24.  Everton may not be on great form, but their fixture list looks good for the coming weeks.  Big Sam stated after the game that he doesn’t think Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney can feature in the same starting lineup.  One to think about if you own either of these.

Huddersfield Town

Another poor performance from Huddersfield; it may be time to abandon ship if you’re still holding onto any of their assets.  Two tough fixtures are coming up for The Terriers.  Looking longer term, Aaron Mooy and Alex Pritchard are the strongest options in an attacking sense, as rotation continues in the lone striker slot.  We’d ditch Laurent Depoitre if you’re still holding onto him.

Leicester City

Leicester beat Watford 2-0, with goals from Jamie Vardy and Rihyad Mahrez.  Standard.  Marc Albrighton continued in the side, with Demarai Gray having to settle with a late cameo appearance once again.  Both of these players feature on our Hot or Cold player rankings – albeit at different ends of the spectrum.  Speaking of which, Harry Maguire gained another eight points, as he moved up the defender standings.  We’d recommend trying to trade him in, as he gets attacking returns, as well as bonus points when The Foxes get a clean sheet.

Liverpool

The unpredictable nature of the Premier League was on full show Monday night, as Liverpool lost to bottom of the league Swansea, just a week after beating top of the the league (and unbeaten) Manchester City!  The less said about this Liverpool performance the better.

Manchester City

The Citizens were back to winning ways, brushing aside a Newcastle side in a 3-1 win.  Sergio Aguero scored the perfect hatrick, with assists coming from Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Leroy Sane.  There was talk of Danilo becoming a good option at left back now that Fabian Delph has picked up an injury, but Oleksandr Zinchenko gained a surprise start.  Unfortunately he’s listed as a midfielder on the FPL game.

Manchester Utd

A hard fought win for United against Burnley, with Anthony Martial bagging the winner.  He’s now scored three on the bounce, as he seems to be replicating the form of his debut season.  The Frenchman leads our midfield Hot List.  With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, it looks likely to be Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard who will see their playing time reduced.  Another clean sheet for United, with Luke Shaw left out despite Jose commenting that he was one of the best left-backs around!!  Maybe all those new Shaw owners will need to re-consider.

Newcastle Utd

Newcastle failed to make much of an impression against Manchester City, although Jacob Murphy made the most of a rare start to bag his sides goal.  Matt Ritchie was an unused substitute, and Christian Atsu was hooked off shortly after the hour.  Newcastle have an okay fixture list coming up, but we wouldn’t recommend any of their assets.  Kennedy may be one to monitor after his loan move from Chelsea.  He’ll put pressure on Atsu for the left wing berth.

Southampton

Southampton gained a good draw against Tottenham, although their only goal of the game was scored by a Spurs player.  Dusan Tadić produced a lively display for The Saints, and he features in our Hot List.  The Serbian is worth a look as the fixtures are turning good again for Southampton.  Therefore Ryan Bertrand could also be a good option once again; he bagged the assist for the own goal.

Stoke City

Stoke got off to a flying start under new manager Paul Lambert, with attacking returns coming from Xherdan Shaqiri, Eric-Maxim Choupu Moting, Joe Allen, and Mame Briam Diouf.  All ones to monitor as the fixture list looks good for The Potters.  Sign up Shaqiri immediately if a fellow manager has lost faith in him.  We backed Stoke for a clean sheet in our Calculating The Cleanie blog, and they duly delivered.  Kurt Zouma is the pick of the bunch from their backline.

Swansea City

The Swans shocked everyone by defeating Liverpool on Monday night.  Alfie Mawson scored the only goal of the game, taking home a 15 point return.  Jordan Ayew put in another strong performance up front, and is the only Swansea player to feature in our Hot List.  Could this spark a surge up the table for Swansea?!

Tottenham Hotspur

A disappointing draw for Tottenham, as they sorely missed creative asset Christian Eriksen.  He missed out due to illness, as did goalkeeper Hugo LlorisHarry Kane bagged the goal, with an assist from Ben Davies who has been highlighted in our Hot List due to the injury to Danny RoseSerge Aurier started at right back, but was withdrawn with a potential injury.  Toby Alderweireld looks set to return this weekend in the FA Cup – sign him up pronto if he’s a free agent in your Draft League!

Watford

The slump continued for Watford, as they lost to Leicester and failed to find the back of the net.  Shortly after the game, Marco Silva was sacked, and a new head coach revealed in Javi Gracia.  It’ll be interesting to see how this effects the team, and the prospects of the individual players in terms of Draft Fantasy Football.  Richarlison tweeted an angry emoji face after Silva was sacked, so it seems he wasn’t too happy about the decision.  Troy Deeney and Andre Gray will be battling for the lone striker berth, so it will be interesting to see which of those come out on top. Andre Carrillo, Roberto Pereyra, and Will Hughes are ones to watch over the coming weeks also.

West Bromich Albion

A decent point away from home for The Baggies, with Jay Rodriguez taking the plaudits.  He’s made it into our Hot List after three attacking returns in his last four games.  He seems to have found a new lease of life under Alan Pardew.  West Brom have good home fixtures over the coming weeks, so it may be worth investing if you can afford to bench their assets every other week!

West Ham Utd

Another solid performance from West Ham, as they gained a point against a much improved Bournemouth side.  Marko Arnautovic produced another assist, although he’s now been ruled out for a few weeks.  It was the West Ham scorer, substitute Chicharito who scored the goal, and looks set for an extended run in the side.  Manuel Lanzini also picked up an injury, and Andy Carroll has been ruled out for a few months.  Antonio could be a decent signing if he’s a free agent in your Draft Fantasy Football league; when he returns to fitness he’ll go straight back into the team and be the focus of the attacking play.
