The fourth installment of our ‘Draft Essentials’ features, advising on how to set up your Draft Fantasy Football League, concentrates on what happens at the end of the season.
We would strongly recommend hosting an End of Season Awards Ceremony, filled with trophies and prizes for the league champion, as well as horrible forfeits for the loser!
✏️ Introduction ✏️
The end of the Draft Fantasy Football season is a time for celebrating success and ridiculing failure. We would hope that you have some kind of trophy up for grabs for the league winner, as well as some imaginative ways to punish the overall loser of the league. We’ve provided our thoughts and recommendations on the later here, if you haven’t already read it! We implore you to get all the boys round to the League Commissioners place, get the beers in and the meat on the BBQ, and look back at all the banter your Draft League has provided over the last nine months. If anything, just use this as an excuse to meet up with your mates for the weekend!
🏆 The Champ 🏆
After a grueling, exhausting, and stressful season, your League Champion deserves to be adequately honoured. You may think your mate got lucky all season. You may even think he won because of collusion with a fellow manager. But you can’t deny that after such a long and hard-fought season, they should be recognised. It’s the right thing to do, guys.
Therefore, they absolutely need a massive, elegant and outrageous trophy to take home to their partners. Buy the biggest trophy you can find, get them a massive wrestling belt to wear on your Draft League social occasions, or even make a trophy yourself! Buy a block of wood, find some old-school football memorabilia from your garage, spray it all gold, and make something weird and wonderful!! Here are some examples of the amazing creations that are out there, via Pinterest:
After awarding The Champ with their trophy, make them give a ridiculously long acceptance speech to the group as a kind of ‘punishment’… Although in recent years our acceptance speeches have been hilarious parodies of moments from TV or movies, so not the cringe-worthy bumbling speech our fellow managers were kind of hoping for!
You could also make up some silly awards or special trophies for the other managers if you fancy it. It’ll provide a bit more banter, and get all the managers involved in the day, other than just the league winners/losers. Some examples of awards could be:
- Best/Worst Draft Pick
- Best/Worst Free Agent Signing
- Biggest Fuck-Up of the Season
- Biggest Bottle Job
💩 The Sacko (Loser) 💩
We’ve previously outlined our thoughts on the reasons why you need to punish the overall loser of your league, and suggested some great examples of ways that these forfeits can be achieved. Check out our Draft Essentials: Punishing The Loser blog here, if you haven’t already read it.
The End of Season Awards Ceremony is your time to hand over these embarrassing items to The Sacko, and laugh at them whilst they undertake their minor public humiliation! To be honest, the main aim of our Draft League is solely to avoid being the overall loser, therefore witnessing your new Sacko undertake his duties is perhaps the sweetest moment of our season!
In terms of the punishments themselves, we’d recommend keeping them lighthearted and, mainly, within the confines of the group. Examples of punishments could be:
- Dressing up in awful clothing at all social events
- Waiting on all managers during social events, bringing them beer and cooking their meat
- Award them with a special “trophy” (for example a toilet seat), which they have to display in their own living room at all times
- A minor bit of public humiliation could also be fun – make them play a recorder on a busy highstreet on a Saturday afternoon, whilst wearing their designated awful items of clothing
📚 Conclusion 📚
So there we have it. The simple premise of an End of Season Awards Ceremony, in order to honour your League Champion, and embarrass your League Loser! Make sure you end your Draft League season with an event such as this… your Champ deserves to be recognised publicly, and your Sacko certainly deserves to be ripped into by his fellow managers for the day. The end of the season needs a suitable send off!!

If this sounds like too much effort, we would highly recommend using an online platform from either the guys at Draft Fantasy or Fantrax.
