Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline the best options on a weekly basis.
We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek. Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!
Top Tip: Crystal Palace
The Team: The Eagles are soaring as the season comes to an end. What a fantastic job Roy Hodgson has done. Guiding Crystal Palace to safety with several games to spare, despite having lost the first seven games of the season, as well as suffering horrific luck with injuries throughout the season. Palace are unbeaten in five, picking up three victories over this run, including the 5-0 hammering of Leicester City. Hodgson’s men face a West Brom side who have been playing extremely well recently, but have ultimately been relegated. Expect Palace to pick up a win and a clean sheet as they will look to finish the season strongly.
The Players: The back four should be Joel Ward, Tomkins, Sakho, and Van Aanholt, with Hennessy in goal. As ever, our top picks are Van Aanholt and Sakho. PVA has been on incredible form recently, scoring four goals in his last nine games. He’s been towards the top of our Hot List in recent weeks, and rightly so. Moving on to Sakho, its not surprise that Palace have been on good form since the Frenchman has returned from injury. He’s an absolute colossus for the south London side. If Palace do get a clean sheet, he’s likely to get some bonus points as well!
The Opposition: As stated above, West Brom have been playing incredibly well recently, beating both Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as coming from behind to draw against Liverpool. However, we’re backing Crystal Palace to shut them out this weekend, as West Brom were confirmed as relegated prior to this gameweek. Darren Moore has already done enough to secure the managerial job on a full time basis, and therefore we’re expecting The Baggies’ performance levels to drop slightly this weekend.
We’re also looking towards West Ham United to keep a cleanie, as they face Everton at home. The Hammers really haven’t been on great form defensively in recent weeks or months, but they did manage two clean sheets over the double GW37! Everton are limping towards the end of the season, and we don’t expect much from them on Sunday. In terms of the West Ham defenders, Aaron Cresswell is obviously the outstanding choice. He’s scored once this season, as well as gaining seven assists. The Englishman’s crossing ability is very good, and he’s always a threat going forward. Elsewhere, we’d expect Zabaleta, Rice, Ogbonna, and Masuaku to be in the starting eleven.
Elsewhere, we’re going to highlight a few players who look set to start at the weekend, and could bring home a one-off clean sheet to finish off your season!
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Sergio Romero will start against Watford for GW38. This fixture has a Manchester United clean sheet written all over it!! Romero is likely to be a free agent in Draft Leagues – sign him up!
Ragnar Klavan has a great chance of starting for Liverpool this weekend, as they face Brighton at home. With the Champions League Final coming up, Liverpool will surely be resting Dejan Lovren, and have a decent chance of gaining a clean sheet.
And finally, Benjamin Mendy looks to be a good investment for this weekend, as surely he’ll start against Southampton after several appearances from the bench. If this Chap is still a free agent in your Draft Fantasy Football League, snap him up as you look to end the season in style!

If this sounds like too much effort, we would highly recommend using an online platform from either the guys at Draft Fantasy or Fantrax.
