Draft Fantasy Football is all about picking a diamond from the rough, a hidden gem that no one else has considered, or a Premier League player hitting a good run of form. This weekly article is here to help you find your golden ticket to a big score, recommending five attacking differentials who could score big in the upcoming gameweek.
Your third striker just got injured? Your fifth midfielder stuck in rotation hell? We’ll help you out with some suggestions to give your team a little boost with a one week Punt!
This week will be slightly random as we’re heading into GW1 straight from the draft. Not much data on who the low ownership players are, or the starting elevens, at the moment!
Team: Brighton & Hove Albion
Opponent: Watford (Away)
Ownership: 28% (Draft Fantasy Football)
Prospects: The Iranian winger scored an incredible 21 goals last season for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch league. He was subsequently the first Asian player to be top goal scorer in a major European League. Although the Eredivisie sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, you can’t deny those sorts of numbers, and for a midfielder too! Draft Fantasy Football managers should be well up for a bit of Jahanbakhsh… he’s what the format is made for!! Brighton start the season away to a Watford side who struggled with clean sheets last season. We would expect Brighton to score, and the Iranian will surely be involved. He could well turn out to be this season’s Pascal Gross!
Alternative Choice: Anthony Knockaert (15%) offers an alternative to Jahanbakhsh, as he looks set to feature and will be looking to perform well due to the increased competition for places.
GW1 Points Scored: 1
Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)
Ownership: 10% (Draft Fantasy Football)
Prospects: Cairney led Fulham to glory in the Championship Playoff last season, and we’re expecting him to start off in the same vein. The Fulham captain will be pivotal to their chances of success this season. The Scottish international is a set piece specialist, and we’d expect him to pick up a fair few assists this season due to his exceptional deliveries from set pieces, as well as during open play. The Fulham side is looking pretty good this season – a mid-table finish should be on the cards. We’re expecting both Fulham and opponents Palace to score on Saturday afternoon, and with Cairney laying on chances for Mitrovic and Sessegnon, we’re hoping for attacking returns for him.
Alternative Choice: The golden boy himself Ryan Sessegnon (57%) is certainly worth a shot for this game against Palace. If he’s gone undrafted in your Draft Fantasy Football League (highly unlikely, we know) snap him up immediately!!
GW1 Points Scored: 2
Opponent: Cardiff (Home)
Ownership: 42% (Draft Fantasy Football)
Prospects: The next two picks are a couple of classic Punting For Gold options. Firstly we’re backing Callum Wilson to bag attacking returns at home to newly promoted Cardiff. The English striker looks set to be unchallenged for the lone striker role at Bournemouth this season, and he has a great chance of kicking off the season in the right way. We’re expecting a win for the Cherries during GW1, and Wilson is in a great position to bag a goal.
Alternative Choice: Ryan Fraser (3%) is a good alternative if Wilson is taken in your Draft Fantasy Football League. With Stanislas injured, Fraser will be competing with Ibe to secure a slot in the starting eleven going forward. We’re expecting the Scotsman to perform well in GW1.
GW1 Points Scored: 8
Opponent: Burnley (Home)
Ownership: 37% (Draft Fantasy Football)
Prospects: We’re heading to the South Coast again with our fourth pick, as Charlie Austin takes his place in our Punts. Southampton are taking on a Burnley side who have already been taking part in competitive fixtures this season – although they haven’t looked great defensively. Therefore, we’re backing our boi Charlie Austin to start the season with a bang. Hopefully Austin will be able to stay healthy this season – such a shame that he suffers with so many injury problems. Southampton will need him fit and firing this season if they are going to avoid the drop!
Alternative Choice: New signing Mohamed Elyounoussi (23%) is an alternative option, as the Norwegian winger has been brought in to replace the departed Dusan Tadic. He looks set to take over as the Saint’s main creative force, and could be a decent Punt throughout this season.
GW1 Points Scored: 2
Team: Crystal Palace
Opponent: Fulham (Away)
Ownership: 2% (Draft Fantasy Football)
Prospects: New Palace recruit Kouyate obviously isn’t a prolific Draft Fantasy Football points scorer, but we fancy him for a debut goal against newly promoted Fulham! Bit of a gamble for the final GW1 pick!! The Senegalese international has been brought in to add some power to the Eagles midfield, and he’ll sure do that. He’s dangerous from set pieces, so we’re predicting a headed goal from a Townsend corner. The Fulham backline should be breached during an entertaining London Derby at Craven Cottage, as we be mentioned earlier in this article.
Alternative Choice: Alexander Sorloth (3%) looks set to start GW1 for Palace, as Benteke has been struggling with a pre-season injury, and a new striker has yet to be purchased. The Norwegian international could be a decent Punt for the first couple of games.
