Punting For Gold – GW7

Draft Fantasy Football is all about picking a diamond from the rough, a hidden gem that no one else has considered, or a Premier League player hitting a good run of form.  This weekly article is here to help you find your golden ticket to a big score, recommending five attacking differentials who could score big in the upcoming gameweek.

We use the ownership statistics as per Draft Fantasy, with the rules being each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 30% or below.  That way there’s a good chance each player will be a free agent in your Draft Fantasy Football League!  Use these suggestions to give your team a little boost with a one week Punt!

N.B: For the purposes of this article, we use the standard scoring systems used by Official FPL and Draft Fantasy – including bonus points.

Diogo Jota

Position:  Midfielder

Team:  Wolves

Opponent:  Southampton (Home)

Ownership:  28% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  Its been a slow start to life in the Premier League for the talented Spaniard.  He gained an assist in GW1 (for a free-kick scored by Neves), but has no other attacking returns to his name.  He continues to be a mainstay in the Wolves side though, and they have a a fantastic home fixture against Southampton this weekend.  Wolves have been impressive so far this season, especially at home, so this could be the game for Jota to join the party.  His ownership of 28% suggests that many a manager has given up on him.  Now could be the time to take advantage of this!

Alternative Choice:  Joao Moutinho (16% – Draft Fantasy Football).  The Portugeuse veteran has been rolling back the years, with some great displays in the middle of the park.  He has one goal and one assist to his name so far, and looks to be growing in influence as the season goes on.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Position:  Striker

Team:  Leicester City

Opponent:  Newcastle (Away)

Ownership:  26% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  A very productive GW6 for this Chap, as he bagged a goal and an assist.  This performance, paired with the serious injury suffered by Gray in the League Cup, promotes his prospects, and almost guarantees another start in GW7 when Leicester face Newcastle.  We’re skeptical about a Foxes clean sheet, but they look  good for the win against Newcastle, considering their poor form.  There’s a good chance Iheanacho will be a free agent in your Draft League, as he has been in and out of the Leicester side so far this season.  He has tons of ability, and will hopefully be in the side to stay – his link up place with Vardy and Maddison in GW6 was very good.

Alternative Choice:  Ben Chilwell (25% –  Draft Fantasy Football).  As mentioned, we’re not expecting a Leicester clean sheet in GW6, but Chilwell continues to be an attacking threat despite gaining no goals or assists so far this season.  He’s supplied 9 key passes so far this season, so an assist is long overdue.

GW7 Points Scored:  2

Ilkay Gundogan

Position:  Midfielder

Team:  Manchester City

Opponent:  Brighton (Home)

Ownership:  24% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  A superb display in GW6, followed up by only a substitute appearance during the mid-week League Cup games, promotes the prospects of the German international ahead of this weekend.  He looks set to start for City, and therefore there is every chance he could bag more attacking returns after a goal and an assist last time around.  The Citizens face a decent Brighton side, but surely they will have enough to put two or three goals past the Seagulls.  If Gundogan is a free agent, he’s certainly worth acquiring if you have space in your squad!

Alternative Choice:  Erik Lamela (17% – Draft Fantasy Football).  Two goals in two substitute appearances in the Premier League, followed by a goal during a start in the League Cup.  The Argentinian is surely getting closer to gaining a start for Tottenham who’ve been a bit off colour this season.  If he doesn’t start, he could always come off the bench and score, as per usual.

GW7 Points Scored:  0

Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Position:  Midfielder

Team:  Burnley

Opponent:  Cardiff (Away)

Ownership:  12% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  Burnley finally got up and running for the season, as they smashed an inform Bournemouth side 4-0 in GW6!!  One of last seasons stars, Gudmundsson, was heavily involved in the victory, and provided two assists to take his tally to three for the season.  This weekend Burnley travel to a very poor Cardiff side, and we fully expect Burnley to take home another victory.  Cardiff have been pretty shocking so far this season, so any manager taking advantage of streaming slots in midfield, as well as in defence, really needs to look towards those Burnley assets this weekend.  Gudmundsson is perhaps the marque Burnley pick!

Alternative Choice:  Aaron Lennon (1% – Draft Fantasy Football).  Aaron Lennon scored a goal!!!! Of course he did, the reigning champion and league leader in our Draft Fantasy League signed him for GW6 (not at all annoying having had him on my watch list)!  Lennon is a decent choice if Gudmundsson is not free in your Draft League.

GW7 Points Scored:  13

Junior Stanislas

Position:  Midfielder

Team:  Bournemouth

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  4% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  A Draft Fantasy Football legend has returned to action.  Stanislas is the stuff of legends… popping up with explosive performances, or sitting on the sidelines with serious injuries.  It’s what he does.  The wideman has just returned from injury, and now is the time to snap him up before his next injury.  He came on for a second half cameo in GW6, started and scored in the mid-week League Cup games, and could possibly start this weekend in place of youngster David Brooks.  In any case, sign him up… big points should be on the horizon.  Its Crystal Palace at home for The Cherries, and we would expect them to score despite two consecutive clean sheets for The Eagles.

Alternative Choice:  Matej Vydra (4% – Draft Fantasy Football).  Another Burnley boy for you… Vydra made his first start for The Clarets in GW6, and bagged a goal.  Looks set to start again this weekend, and could get himself another goal considering the poor defence that will be in front of him.
