Streaming defenders is an essential tactic in Draft Fantasy Football, so we’re here to outline useful hints and tips on a weekly basis.
We pick out the best options for a clean sheet to be found in a Premier League defence with potentially low ownership, as well as players who look set to start for a top 6 side on a given gameweek. Pick up a free agent from one of these sides to give your team a better chance of victory!
We use the ownership statistics as per Draft Fantasy, with the rules being each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 30% or below.
Top Tip: Everton
The Team: This week we’re backing Everton for a clean sheet as they host Crystal Palace. We are sure you are all wondering how we could pick a side that has only kept one clean sheet this season, however the one and only clean sheet came recently; in GW7.
The Players: Everton’s back four is relatively settled of late, with big injuries to Coleman, Williams, Martina, Jagielka, and Mina all forcing Marco Silva’s hand. With no changes coming in the past three GWs; Zouma (3% ownership Draft Fantasy Football), Kenny (1% DFF), Keane (19% DFF), Digne (17% DFF) all look set to continue their partnership this GW, even if it is for just one more GW as Mina (24% DFF) looks set to return to fitness imminently. Coleman could return from injury to take his position at right back which would see Kenny drop out. Digne is perhaps the best option from the back line considering his attacking instincts.
The Opposition: Crystal Palace have scored only two goals in the past five gameweeks and have looked pretty blunt in attack of late. Of course Palace’s main threat is Zaha, he’s been involved in four of Palace’s five goals this season.
The Prospects: The prospects aren’t the best, but not totally dreadful either; with a mixture of three top six sides in the next seven GWs. The Toffees have some good upcoming home fixtures for those willing to rotate Everton defenders.
Alternative Choice: Fulham
OK. Fulham have been totally useless at the back this season, in fact; they’ve not kept a clean sheet all season. But Cardiff have been equally as useless in attack this season; having scored only four goals and having drawn five blanks in their 8 GWs to date.
So can this GW finally bring about a clean sheet for Fulham? Well they won’t get a better opportunity.
In terms of the players to target, we’d suggest Christie (1% DFF) as his role as right back will help to potentially bring about attacking returns as well as defensive. The other alternate selection we’d suggest would be Bettinelli (5% DFF) the Fulham goalkeeper; as he would make an excellent backup to any Draft Fantasy Football squad.
Looking Elsewhere: Jonny and Doherty
We cannot rate these two wing backs enough. Jonny (5% DFF) has returned 4 clean sheets and a goal. Whilst Doherty (8% DFF) has returned 4 clean sheets, 2 assists, and a goal.
In fact we cannot understand how the ownership statistics are still so low!
Watford have been shocking in both attack and defence over the past four GWs, having only scored two goals and conceded a staggering 9! It is with this in mind, that we believe both Jonny and Doherty have excellent potential this week for both defensive and attacking differentials this GW!
