Chaps Choices – GW24

We bring to you a new format for our weekly blog posts… Chaps Choices!!  This article combines our two standard weekly blogs, Calculating The Cleanie and Punting For Gold, to create a starting eleven of Premier League Draft Fantasy Football differential picks!

Whether you play Draft Fantasy or Fantrax platforms, this article is here to give you hints and tips to help you find your golden ticket to a big score.  We recommend a team of Draft Fantasy differentials and Fantrax differentials who could score big in the upcoming gameweek.

We use the ownership statistics as per Draft Fantasy and Fantrax with the rules being each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 35% or below on DFF, and 60% or below on Fantrax (at the time of writing).  That way there’s a good chance each player will be a free agent in your Draft Fantasy Football League!  Use these suggestions to give your team a little boost with a one week Punt!

Draft Fantasy Starting Eleven:

**35% ownership or below**

gw24 dff

FWD: Fernando Llorente

Team:  Spurs

Opponent:  Watford (Home)

Ownership:  9% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   We unsuccessfully backed Llorente last weekend, but didn’t everyone?!  Is it too soon to joke that he found the net?  Probably if your GW was dependent on Llorente picking up some points!  The Spaniard managed to find the back of the correct net in the League Cup, as he bagged the goal to take the Chelsea/Tottenham tie to penalties.  Its a tough one to call this week, and to be perfectly honest, the options up front (under 35% ownership) are very slim; perhaps Jordan Ayew (9% DFF) is Llorente’s only rival for a place in our DFF team this GW as he takes on Southampton.  But Llorente is in the better side and will surely get another opportunity this GW with Alli, Kane out, and recovering from his Asia Cup exploits.  Everyone back on the Llorente train, he’ll come good this GW against Watford!

GW24 Points Scored:  12

FWD: Danny Ings

Team:  Southampton

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  29% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   A Draft Fantasy Football legend this season, Ings has seven goals and an assist already, despite having missed seven GWs!  This form means the on-loan striker is included in our Hot List.  Injury has always followed Ings and naturally he has struggled the past couple of GWs since his latest return from injury; however Crystal Palace offer an excellent opportunity for Ings to get back into form.  Palace have conceded seven goals in the past four GWs, shipping two at home to Watford and then four on the road to Liverpool last GW.  If Ings is taken in your Draft League, look to the two standout alternatives in both Redmond (3% DFF) and Ward-Prowse (1% DFF) who’ve both been in sublime form recently; Ward-Prowse has two goals in two games.

GW24 Points Scored:  2

MID: Ademola Lookman

Team:  Everton

Opponent:  Huddersfield (Away)

Ownership:  1% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  The young winger dazzled for Everton in GW22 when he replaced Walcott on the wing, picking up an assist in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth.  Going into GW24 we believe Lookman will hold off the competition for a starting place to face the Premier League basement boys, Huddersfield.  Despite announcing their new manager this week; we think Everton will have too much firepower for a defence that has conceded 13 goals in 7 GWs!  Considering Lookman’s ownership statistics, he is likely to be a free agent and has serious potential for attacking returns!  Everton have a double gameweek in GW25, so he’s even more of an enticing prospect.

GW24 Points Scored:  0

MID: Erik Lamela

Team:  Tottenham

Opponent:  Watford (Home)

Ownership:  24% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  With Kane and Alli out, Son recovering from the Asia Cup, and Moura struggling for fitness; Lamela’s stock has risen significantly over the past few GWs; he’s now very much part of our Hot List.  Despite not being able to have an affect nor make any attacking returns in GW23 against strugglers Fulham, Lamela will undoubtedly start against Watford in GW24.  Watford kept a clean sheet in GW23 but lets not forget that was at home to Burnley.  However, normally Watford concede, with only five clean sheets this season.  We are certain Spurs will be looking to Lamela to spark the creative play in GW24.  The Argenteanean only made a substitute appeareance at the weekend, so looks set to start midweek.

GW24 Points Scored:  1

MID: Joao Moutinho

Team:  Wolves

Opponent:  West Ham (Home)

Ownership:  18% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  Obviously we could go and pick Jota (18% DFF) this weekend because he plays upfront and scored a hattrick in GW23, but we’ve gone rogue with Moutinho, who picked up his 3rd and 4th assists in the Premier League in GW23 to go with the goal GW6.  To be perfectly honest with you chaps, if Jota, Neves, or Moutinho are available then sign them up!  Signing a Wolves chap at this stage of the season is an investment in the next six GWs, West Ham at home in GW24 is followed by: Everton (away), Newcastle (home), Bournemouth (away), Huddersfield (away), and Cardiff (home).  All aboard!!

GW24 Points Scored:  11

MID: Ryan Babel

Team:  Fulham

Opponent:  Brighton (Home)

Ownership:  0% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  Is he still playing?  I remember him being really quick but really rubbish at Liverpool whilst I was doing my GCSEs?  Fast forward 14 years and Babel is back!!  He’s still pretty rubbish, but pretty quick.  And like with Fifa, we chaps love a fast footballer who can terrorise defences with his pace!  We’ve analysed Babel’s prospects in more detail in our January Transfer Analysis Article.  Whilst he was unable to make an impact on GW23, Babel looked sharp and we believe he will be a diamond in the rough.  Low budget 5th choice midfielder, guaranteed to play up front and good for a few goals and assists – yes please.

GW24 Points Scored:  7

DEF: Danilo

Team:  Manchester City

Opponent:  Newcastle (Away)

Ownership:  12% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   Mendy has returtned to the side, but picked up a minor injury during his League Cup run-out.  The last two GWs Danilo has played back to back 90 minutes, picked up two clean sheets and a goal; this form has seen him enter our Hot List.  This selection is a short term selection, given Mendy will be fit and back into the team for early February; however Danilo in GW24 at Newcastle is an essential pick for any Draft side.  Newcastle might have scored three goals at home to Cardiff in GW23, but a Manchester City side chasing the title is a different beast; Danilo will come away with a cleanie.

GW24 Points Scored:  1

DEF: Jonny

Team:  Wolves

Opponent:  West Ham (Home)

Ownership:  9% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:  The left wingback started off life in the Premier League so well, but has seen his form dip after sustaining an injury before GW13.  Given the fixture, Jonny will be looking to add to his personal tally of having been involved in all of Wolves clean sheets (5) this season.  Also, it is worth remembering that Jonny also has attacking potential, having picked up a goal and an assist so far.  With West Ham’s form looking average and having kept only one clean sheet in 6 GWs we expect Wolves to run away with this one.

GW24 Points Scored:  6

DEF: Kurt Zouma

Team:  Everton

Opponent:  Huddersfield (Away)

Ownership:  5% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   An assist, a goal, and a clean sheet in the last two GWs for Zouma has brought him to our attention for GW24.  With Huddersfield the opponents there isn’t much to say about this one, other than you need an Everton defender in your side; Huddersfield have scored only 3 goals in 8 GWs!  We debated about including Digne (29% DFF) but it is extremely unlikely that he will be available in any active Draft leagues; so Zouma gets the nod.

GW24 Points Scored:  6

DEF: Sead Kolasinac

Team:  Arsenal

Opponent:  Cardiff (Home)

Ownership:  28% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   Another selection whereby you can take your pick between a few players; we wouldn’t argue with any chaps going with Sokratis (34% DFF) or Koscielny (23% DFF).  However, we cannot look past Kolasinac, given his wingback position and his ability to bring home attacking returns on top of the expected defensive returns this weekend against Cardiff!  Kolasinac already has proven his attacking capabilities having picked up 3 assists, not bad considering he missed the opening 10 GWs!  The Bosnian defender has been in our Hot List for many weeks – his attacking play down the left has been extremely exciting for us Draft Fantasy Football Managers.

GW24 Points Scored:  5

GK: Alex McCarthy

Team:  Southampton

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  28% (Draft Fantasy Football)

Prospects:   The Southampton keeper has been in really good form despite playing for a team that has struggled defensively all season.  McCarthy has only kept four clean sheets this season but there are very slim pickings for goalies under the 35% mark, unless you fancy a punt on Heaton (12% DFF) who plays a resurgent Manchester United.  Despite Palace scoring 3 goals at Liverpool in GW23, we think Palace will have run out of steam for this fixture and will draw a blank as Southampton will shutdown Zaha.

Draft Fantasy GW24 Team Average:  4.8 points per player

Draft Fantasy GW24 Team Average Ownership:  15%

Fantrax Starting Eleven (Togga scoring):

**60% ownership or below**

gw24 fantrax

FWD: Steve Mounie

Team:  Huddersfield

Opponent:  Everton (Home)

Ownership:  55% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Mounie is a Togga scoring legend, and we’re delighted to see his ownership dip below our 60% ownership threshold.  Over the past four games, the Frenchman has averaged 12.25 points per game…  He’s gained one attacking return during this period!!!  GW24 see’s Huddersfield face Everton in front of their own fans.  We think the Terriers will lose this game, but Mounie will undoubtedly gain his regular high score as long as he starts the game.  Worth a punt if he’s a free agent in your Draft League.  An alternative here for a player who manages to score well every game without gaining attacking returns, is Dwight McNeil (28% Fantrax) who faces a trip to Old Trafford.  The youngster has gained double figure returns in each of his four starts in recent weeks; great Togga scoring from the youngster.  We love a player that scores well without bagging goals or assists!

GW24 Points Scored:  8

FWD: Fernando Llorente

Team:  Spurs

Opponent:  Watford (Home)

Ownership:  43% (Fantrax)

Prospects:   We unsuccessfully backed Llorente last weekend (in our Draft Fantasy picks), but didn’t everyone?!  Is it too soon to joke that he found the net?  Probably if your GW was dependent on Llorente picking up some points!  The Spaniard managed to find the back of the correct net in the League Cup, as he bagged the goal to take the Chelsea/Tottenham tie to penalties.  Llorente will surely get another opportunity this GW with Alli and Kane out, and Son recovering from his Asia Cup exploits.  Everyone back on the Llorente train, he’ll come good this GW against Watford!

GW24 Points Scored:  24.5

MID: Ashley Westwood

Team:  Burnley

Opponent:  Manchester United(Away)

Ownership:  27% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  We did have Idrissa Gueye in this slot, but after the transfer speculation surrounding his future at Everton, we’ve made the switch over to Westwood.  Like Gueye, Westwood is a steady Togga scorer, but he’s really upped his game in recent weeks.  Gaining double figure scores in three of the past four games, due to his ability to provide key passes, Westwood has made our Hot List.  GW24 sees a rejuvenated Burnley visit Manchester United – not an easy task, but we think the Englishman will be able to put in another steady performance and gain a decent score!

GW24 Points Scored:  10.5

MID: Ryan Babel

Team:  Fulham

Opponent:  Brighton (Home)

Ownership:  31% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Babel went straight into the Fulham side for GW23, and played very well during the 55 minutes he was on the pitch!  He also scored very well in the Togga scoring system, as he managed 9 points without scoring or assisting… very interesting for us Draft Managers!!  Babel has a real chance of becoming a good performer over the final few months of the season. We’ve analysed Babel’s prospects in more detail in our January Transfer Analysis Article.  Whilst he was unable to make an impact on GW23, Babel looked sharp and we believe he will be a diamond in the rough.  In GW24, Fulham face Brighton at home, and we’re expecting another good performance, and a decent points haul from the Dutchman!

GW24 Points Scored:  21.5

MID: James Ward-Prowse

Team:  Southampton

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  46% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Ward-Prowse picked up another goal in GW23, as he made it two from two!  The young midfielder has been playing extremely well since being brought back into the fold in GW20… no idea why Hughes didn’t give him a chance in a struggling side!!  JWP is a good Togga scorer; mainly because of his key passes.  This weekend the Saints face Crystal Palace, and we’re expecting a third successive win for Hasenhüttl’s side.  An alternative to Ward-Prowse is fellow midfielder Hojbjerg (53% Fantrax), who has been scoring well in recent games also.  Both of these Chaps should score well in GW24.

GW24 Points Scored:  14.5

DEF: Callum Chambers

Team:  Fulham

Opponent:  Brighton (Home)

Ownership:  25% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Fulham have a great chance of picking up a win in GW24, as they host Brighton at Craven Cottage.  Ranieri’s side have been improving at the back in recent weeks, and are no longer shipping multiple goals every game… here they have a decent chance of picking up just a third clean sheet of the season!  Chambers has been stationed in midfield in recent months, and has been scoring very well in Togga scoring.  If Fulham can gain a clean sheet, then Chambers will surely gain a double digit score – he managed 12.75 points in the 2-1 loss to Tottenham in GW23!  Chambers looks like a great pickup for GW24, and his ownership is still only 25%.

GW24 Points Scored:  17.5

DEF: Kurt Zouma

Team:  Everton

Opponent:  Huddersfield (Away)

Ownership:  23% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  An assist, a goal, and a clean sheet in the last two GWs for Zouma has brought him to our attention for GW24.  With Huddersfield the opponents there isn’t much to say about this one, other than you need an Everton defender in your side; Huddersfield have scored only 3 goals in 8 GWs!  Zouma has started the last seven games, having seemingly seen off competition from summer signing Mina.  The Frenchman has been showing very good Togga scoring abilities in recent weeks, having averaged nearly 12 points per game during the last five matches.  That’s pretty good considering Everton have been conceding a fair amount of goals!

GW24 Points Scored:  17.25

DEF: Ryan Bennett

Team:  Wolves

Opponent:  West Ham (Home)

Ownership:  42% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  We did have Sokratis down in this spot for a cheeky Arsenal clean sheet double up, but after limping off in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, we’ve given Ryan Bennett the call up.  The big centre back is a good scorer on Togga, and should do well in GW24.  With West Ham’s form looking average and having kept only one clean sheet in 6 GWs we expect Wolves to run away with this one.

GW24 Points Scored:  7

DEF: Jan Bednarek

Team:  Southampton

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  6% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Bednarek has started the last eight games for The Saints, and has been showing some incredible Togga scoring form!  He’s been an absolute beast for aerials and clearances the last two games, with double figure scores in both games despite not gaining a clean sheet or attacking return in either… 25 points in GW23 was just mental!!  The Polish defender has a chance of another great score this weekend, as Southampton face a Crystal Palace side who are usually pretty shy in front of goal – lets ignore the 3 goals they scored at Anfield last weekend!  Bednarek has potential to become the next breakout Togga scoring star… keep a close eye on this one!  If a fellow manager has already jumped on board the Bednarek bus, then team mate Vestergaard (19% Fantrax) is a solid option; he also scores well without the need for a clean sheet!  Both of the Chaps are currently in our Hot List.

GW24 Points Scored:  3.25

DEF: Danilo

Team:  Manchester City

Opponent:  Newcastle (Away)

Ownership:  46% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  Danilo has been somewhat of a surprise package in recent weeks, having started five Premier League games in a row – that’s pretty great for a Manchester City player!  In the last two games the Brazilian has picked up two clean sheets and a goal; this form has seen him enter our Hot List.  He’s scored over 20 points in each of the last two games!  Be cautious with this one though; Mendy is back to fitness, and will be challenging Danilo for a starting slot at left back.  GW24 opponents Newcastle might have scored three goals at home to Cardiff in GW23, but a Manchester City side chasing the title is a different beast; Danilo will come away with a cleanie and a decent Togga score for sure.

GW24 Points Scored:  1.5

GK: Bernd Leno

Team:  Arsenal

Opponent:  Cardiff (Home)

Ownership:  52% (Fantrax)

Prospects:  We’re very surprised to see Leno’s ownership drop below 60%!  This weekend Arsenal face Cardiff at home, and there looks to be a good chance of a second consecutive clean sheet for the Gunners.  In GW23 they managed to surprisingly keep out Chelsea for just their fourth clean sheet of the campaign.  Jumping on board Leno would be a decent move if you can.  Alternatives for this slot would be Patricio (58% Fantrax) and McCarthy (23% Fantrax) – both of these Chaps have a decent chance of a clean sheet for GW24!  Emotions will be running high during this GW24 fixture, as this will be the first fixture since the shocking news surrounding new signing Emiliano Sala.

GW24 Points Scored:  1.25

Fantrax GW24 Team Points:  127.75

Fantrax GW24 Team Average:  11.5

Fantrax GW24 Average Ownership:  36%
