Norwich City Squad Analysis

Following on from our Norwich City Player Thread, we now bring to you a full on analysis of the prospects of every single Norwich City player ahead of next season!  This article will focus on all forms of Premier League Fantasy Football, with Official FPL and Draft Fantasy / FPLDraft covered.

These hints and tips will be invaluable when it comes to considering which players to bring in next season.  It will also be a great resource for any Premier League fan wanting to find out a bit more about the Premier League newcomers.  We cover Norwich’s Best XI, Squad Players, as well as Returning Loan Players.  We will also consider Transfer Targets for The Canaries, where they need to strengthen, and who they may bring into the squad to help with Premier League survival.

Here at The Fantasy Football Chaps, we’re both avid Norwich City fans, so trust us, we know what we’re talking about when it comes to our club.  Now lets get started… On The Ball City!!!

🏆 The Boss 🏆

Firstly, let us introduce you to little known Norwich City manager, Daniel Farke.  The 42 year old German has worked wonders with this squad of players, although his first 15 months or so in charge were fairly rocky.  There were even calls to sack him at the start of the 18/19 campaign, after an indifferent start to the season!

After managing Dortmund II for two years between 2015 and 2017, Farke was appointed Norwich manager on 25th May 2017.  The German’s inaugural season was a pretty average one, ending up in 14th place in the Championship, after bringing in a lot of new players during his first year.  Most of these players were from the lower leagues of German football, and obviously needed time to adjust to the English game.  Farke targeted players that showed great promise as youngsters, but for whatever reason their career hasn’t quite taken off as expected.  The other important thing Farke looks for is youth and attitude that fits his hard working, but expressive football culture.

The 2018/19 season was a completely different affair.  After a somewhat inconsistent start to the season, Farke went on to lift this Norwich side in the autumn and winter, as they put together a long unbeaten run to reach the top of the table towards the end of 2018.  In the end, The Canaries held off competition from Sheffield United and Leeds, and secured promotion to the Premier League on the penultimate day of the season.  The Championship Title was then confirmed during the final game, as they beat Aston Villa to top off a memorable season.

Farke followed in the footsteps of David Wagner, as he honed his talents whilst taking charge of Dortmund II before progressing up the ranks.  Norwich City Sporting Director Stuart Webber joined the club just before Farke was appointed, and has basically followed the same formula that was used when he got Huddersfield promoted a couple of years ago; hiring the Dortmund II manager (Wagner), bringing in a host of unknown players from European Leagues, and blending these together with home grown talent.

Farke’s managerial style is fairly similar to fellow Dortmund alumni Jurgen Klopp, as he likes to play attacking football with a good passing game, as well as pressing opposition players when without the ball.  City are exceptionally fit, and as a result have scored 25 goals in the last 10 minutes across their 46 league fixtures.  Norwich City scored a hell of a lot of goals this season, but also conceded a fair few.  13 clean sheets for the league champions isn’t too great… however scoring 93 goals is pretty great though; they even out scored the 2017/18 champions Wolves!

Norwich will definitely stick to the same style next season; scoring a decent amount of goals to keep viewers, and Fantasy Football Players intrigued.

🔰 Norwich City Best XI 🔰

🇳🇱 Tim Krul 🇳🇱

Age: 31

Position: Goalkeeper

Appearances: 46

Clean Sheets: 13

18/19 Season:  Krul was signed on the eve of Championship kick-off, as Norwich looked to replace their outstanding 17/18 goalkeeper; Angus Gunn.  The Dutchman was brought in on a free transfer, after his contract with Brighton had expired.  Krul performed fairly well on a whole throughout the season, but he did have a couple of calamity moments.  Luckily, Norwich’s attacking prowess usually got him out of jail!  Ask City fans about Krul and they are split.  Some will be hoping to see him replaced for next season; whereas others will argue that in a very young defence Krul brings leadership and is integral to Norwich City’s style of playing out from the back – which of course comes with higher risks.  One thing the fans don’t debate is that Krul is a fine shot stopper and can pull of spectacular saves.

Premier League Prospects:  Krul has plenty of Premier League experience with Newcastle, but the jury is out on whether Norwich do need an upgrade.  We expect The Canaries to sign a new goalkeeper, with Joe Hart rumoured to be on his way to Norfolk…  We look into this one in detail in the Transfer Targets section of this article.

FPL Prospects:  Regardless of whether Krul will be ousted from his Number 1 slot, we’re not expecting much from him in terms of an FPL asset.  Even if he does keep his place in the side, he’s not a player you’re going to want to back given the volume of goals conceded in 2018/19.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  As above, we’re expecting Krul to be replaced, so his Draft Prospects are pretty low.

Draft Rating: ⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Max Aarons 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Age: 19

Position: Right Back

Appearances: 41

Goals: 2

Assists: 6

18/19 Season:  Aarons had a tremendous rookie season in the Norwich side, having graduated through the academy to make his debut for the club in September 2018, away to local rivals Ipswich.  The young right back ousted Ivo Pinto (the previous seasons captain) from the side, and didn’t look back.  The Championship Young Player of the Season was absolutely superb, as he showed maturity, composure, and attacking instincts way beyond his years.  The right-back is very quick and skillful, and has attracted attention of several top Premier League clubs already.

Premier League Prospects:  Aarons is likely to have a great impact in the Premier League, as he looks as though he’s built for a higher standard of football.  Sometimes it didn’t look fair that he was up against some of the Championship wingers and full-backs!  Expect him to improve his football, and gain a fair few attacking returns.  He could potentially be this season’s Doherty…

FPL Prospects:  Great prospects.  We would expect him to be valued at £4.5m, and he’s going to be a player you will want to add to your squad.  Bring him in as a rotation pair with a fellow £4.5m defender, and see how he goes.  If he performs as well as we think he’s going to, he’s likely to be a player that you’ll want to be starting 90% of the time.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  As above, we’re expecting big things from Aarons.  He’s an ideal 4th or 5th choice defender for any Draft Team, and will provide decent value across the season.  Due to his attacking instincts, he could be a great asset for Fantrax/Togga if he continues to supply successful crosses.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿  Ben Godfrey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Age: 21

Position: Centre Back

Appearances: 31

Goals: 4

Assists: 2

18/19 Season: Another Norwich City academy graduate, Godfrey has been in and around the first team for a few years, without really making an impression in between several loan spells away from the club.  The young centre back was given a few chances in the side during the first half of the season, and always played well, but it was the second half of the season where he really stood out.  Godfrey slotted in at left-back during the 4-3 defeat to Derby in December, and soon shifted over to centre back to replace the injured Klose.  The ball-playing defender never looked back, and kept his more experienced team mates Klose and Hanley out of the side for the remainder of the season!  Having shifted his position as a natural CDM; Godfrey is so comfortable on the ball he is crucial to Norwich City’s style of play, passing the ball out from defence.

Premier League Prospects:  Godfrey has actually been linked with Manchester United after his displays during the second half of the season!  We don’t think he’s good enough for that kind of move at the moment, but he has potential.  As we pointed out, Godfrey used to play in midfield, and is therefore very comfortable on the ball.  The big man steps forward into midfield very well, and should do well in the Premier League.  He is likely to make mistakes due to his inexperience at that level, but he should remain in the side, and will perform well for The Canaries no doubt.

FPL Prospects:  Godfrey will likely be priced at £4.5m, and will be an ok prospect at this price.  He gets forward well, and might pop up with the odd goal or assist.  If he’s priced at £4.0m then he’s an essential candidate for the 5th defender slot!

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Godfrey could well be an amazing Fantrax/Togga prospect.  He’s a big lad so he’ll win a fair few headers… he’s also very good on the ball, so could pick up points for his passing ability.  Godfrey moves forward with the ball into the midfield at ever opportunity.  In standard Draft FPL scoring, his prospects are a bit lower, but he could be a streaming defender option at various points throughout the season.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🇩🇪 Christoph Zimmermann 🇩🇪

Age: 26

Position: Centre Back

Appearances: 40

Goals: 2

Assists: 2

18/19 Season:  Zimmermmann followed Farke from Dortmund II in 2017, where he captained the side.  The German is a colossal centre back, and at times it looks as though the Championship is too easy for him.  Zimmermann played very well during the 18/19 campaign, and held together the defence very well during the second half of the season when he was accompanied by three academy graduates.

Premier League Prospects:  Zimmermann should cope well in the Premier League, as he has at times proved that he is too good for the Championship.  The big German is certainly ready for the next level.  Hopefully he will continue his development, and rise to the challenges.  Zimmermann is big and powerful, and will provide headaches for many Premier League forwards.  Whilst not blessed with pace, the best way to describe Zimmermann is John Terry-esq.  He is comfortable on the ball, and relies on reading the game, 9/10 Zimmermann is in the right place at the right time; often making a crucial block.

FPL Prospects:  Zimmermann should be priced at £4.5m, and will provide decent value as the most guaranteed starters from Norwich’s defence.  However it is unlikely that clean sheets and goals will be coming Zimmermann’s way so best to avoid.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Zimmermann will be a decent option for Togga style Draft Managers.  He’ll provide a decent option as a guaranteed starter week in, week out.  A potential streaming defender for sure.  Also, in terms of Fantrax/Togga scoring, he could perform very well; particularly in aerials and interceptions.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jamal Lewis 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Age: 21

Position: Left Back

Appearances: 42

Goals: 0

Assists: 4

18/19 Season:  The Northern Irish international had a brilliant first full season in the senior side, after impressing during the second half of the 17/18 season.  Lewis provides a 7/10 performance every single week, is very dependable in defence, and has decent attacking instincts.  He’s perhaps the least well known of Norwich’s trio of academy defenders, but he’s still a very good young player.

Premier League Prospects:  Lewis could potentially come un-stuck in the Premier League, but his performances over the last 18 months have shown his potential.  He deserves a chance to perform in the side next season, and he will be given one.  Lewis is the least fancied of the first choice backline, but he’s still a good player, and will hopefully perform well at the higher standard.  He has pace and is incredibly tenacious; two qualities that will stand him in good stead for a debut Premier League season.

FPL Prospects:  We’re expecting Lewis to be priced at £4.5m, which will give us a guaranteed starter at this price point.  There will be better options out there though, so we’re ranking his prospects fairly low for the moment.  Aarons is a much better prospect, and will be similarly priced.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  As above, we’re giving Lewis two stars for his Draft Prospects.  He’ll be an assured starter, but other defenders such as Aarons or Enda Stevens, will provide Draft Managers with better options.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️

🇧🇦 Mario Vrancic 🇧🇦

Age: 29

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 36

Goals: 10

Assists: 7

18/19 Season:  Vrancic is a very talented footballer with an eye for goal, but given the competition in central midfield he wasn’t a regular starter.  This wasn’t due to his form, but mainly due to injuries taking him out of action, and winning runs preventing him from getting his spot back.  However, the Bosnian international who has grown up perfecting his trade in German football still managed to bag important goals throughout the season and in particular from the bench during the season run-in.  In ours and the majority of City fans eyes; he should be in Norwich’s best XI.

Premier League Prospects:  With so many options in the central midfield slots at Norwich, we’re ranking Vrancic’s prospects relatively low.  If he establishes himself in the Premier League team, he’s got a chance of performing well.  Vrancic is technically pretty good, and pops up with goals and assists on a fairly regular basis.

FPL Prospects:  Fairly low due to the question marks surrounding his place in the side and the probable rotation with Moritz Leitner.  Could perform well, and if he’s priced at £5.0 and establishes himself in the team, he could hold FPL value.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Again, fairly low due to the questions marks about his place in the side.  Could score well on Fantrax in particular, if he gets himself established in the Premier League best XI.  His passing stats are pretty good, and he’ll take a fair amount of set pieces.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️

🇩🇪 Tom Trybull 🇩🇪

Age: 26

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 31

Goals: 1

Assists: 0

18/19 Season:  Trybull was once a promising German youngster, as he was playing in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen at a young age.  It never really worked out for him though, and after dropping down the leagues, he found himself at Norwich City, working under Farke.  Trybull is a deep-lying playmaker, as he controls most games, loves a tackle, and usually performs fairly well.  This season he was an instrumental part of Norwich’s passing game; he instigates a lot of the moves from a defensive midfield position.

Premier League Prospects:  Trybull should cope well in the Premier League, and he’ll be looking forward to testing his skills at a higher level.  The German midfielder was very good in the Championship last season, and should have enough to perform well in the Premier League too.  Injuries have always been the (excuse the pun) Achilles heel for Trybull, and the end of the season was cut short with an ankle ligament issue.

FPL Prospects:  Not great, considering Trybull’s lack of attacking output.  No goals and one assist last season, in a side that scored 93 goals, shows his lack of end product.  The German shouldn’t feature in many Official FPL squads.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Draft Fantasy prospects are fairly low, due to the lack of attacking output, but in Togga scoring Trybull could do ok.  The midfielder gets in a fair amount of passes and tackles, so could score at a decent; maybe similar to someone like Dendoncker or Propper from Fantrax this season.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️

🇦🇷 Emi Buendia 🇦🇷

Age: 22

Position: Right Wing

Appearances: 38

Goals: 8

Assists: 12

18/19 Season:  Now here’s a player to get excited about chaps.  Norwich sold young winger Josh Murphy to Cardiff for around £15m last summer, and replaced him with little known Emi Buendia from Spanish outfit Getafe for £2m.  Wow…  What a piece of business that was!!!  Buendia was exceptional in his debut season for The Canaries, after establishing himself in the side around October time having missed the start of the season recovering from injury and getting integrated into the squad.  The Argentinean plays in the right-wing position but also roams the field as a complete play maker.  He is very quick and skillful, and makes a hell of a lot of interceptions and tackles, despite his smaller size.  Buendia is a very very good footballer, and takes most of the set-pieces for Norwich.

Premier League Prospects:  We think Buendia will be able to perform well in the Premier League, as he looks to have the quality to match the higher level of football.  Norwich look to have a real player on their hands here, and the Argentinean is only 22 years old.  Seriously, keep an eye on this Chap!  He is better than Maddison, and he went to Leicester for £22.5m.

FPL Prospects:  If Buendia is valued at £5.0 or £5.5m, he’s going to be a really enticing prospect.  He’s got a chance of being next season’s Ryan Fraser, and will likely make a mockery of the low value that Official FPL give him.  Buendia will surprise a lot of people next season, and he really should be on every FPL managers watch list!

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Similar to above, Buendia will be a real asset to any Draft Team.  In Standard Draft Scoring leagues, Buendia will be a great 4th or 5th midfielder option, and would be a good pick up during the later rounds of the Draft.  In Togga Scoring leagues, he could be even better…!!  Considering he will be on most of the set pieces, is very creative, and loves a tackle, he could be an absolute magnet for points in Togga scoring leagues!

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🇩🇪 Onel Hernandez 🇨🇺

Age: 26

Position: Left Wing

Appearances: 40

Goals: 8

Assists: 9

18/19 Season:  The Argos-loving German (Google it if you don’t get the reference!!) is a tricky winger, and gives a solid 7/10 performance every game.  Hernandez arrived at the club in January 2018, and really established himself in the side during the 18/19 season, after a promising start to his Norwich career last season.  Hernandez chipped in with 8 goals and 9 assists, and is a reliable option on the left hand side.  The Cuban born German isn’t the most talented of footballers, but most fans will be happy to see him in the starting XI for The Canaries next season.

Premier League Prospects:  As we’ve said above, Hernandez isn’t the most talented, but he is a hard-working, fast and honest player.  He should be fine in the Premier League, but not a player we’re likely to be raving about over the course of the season.  He is the sort of winger that takes on defences, and will beat a defender 3 or 4 times before looking to shoot.  The end product can be indifferent, however his goals often come at a crucial stage.  The arrival of Patrick Roberts will certainly affect Hernandez, as Roberts is likely to oust the Cuban born German from the side.

FPL Prospects:  Not great now that Roberts has joined on loan.  He could hold value as a £5.0m midfielder if he keeps his place in the side.  Could come in useful at certain points in the season, but FPL players should be looking towards Buendia if they want a budget midfielder from a newly promoted side.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  As above, Hernandez will be good at times, but will be nothing more than a streaming player throughout the season.  He could score well for dribbles completed on Togga scoring, but in standard draft scoring leagues, he’ll need to rely on provide end product; we doubt he’ll be able to provide a great deal of that in the Premier League though.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️

🇩🇪 Marco Stiepermann 🇩🇪

Age: 28

Position: Central Attacking Midfield

Appearances: 43

Goals: 9

Assists: 6

18/19 Season:  Stiepermann joined Noriwch for the 17/18 season, and hardly featured in the first team.  The German was mainly the reserve left-back, and didn’t really get a chance to show the fans why Farke signed him from Bundesliga II side Bochum.  After James Maddison departed for Leicester, Stiepermann was the man who was given the chance to fill in as the new Number 10… and boy did he take it!!  The German ended up with 9 goals and 6 assists, although it seems like he scored more.  Pretty much every Stiepermann goal was a low left foot drive from around 20/25 yards!  He’s a big, lanky guy, and is the kind of footballer who is hard to deal with, due to the fact that he’s so unpredictable!

Premier League Prospects:  Stiepermann really could be a big hit, or a massive flop, in the Premier League.  The German is hard to defend against, due to his size and unpredictability, so defenders may really be taken by surprise.  On the flip side, he probably doesn’t have the genuine pace to perform well at the higher standard of football.  He’s the type of footballer that no matter what, he always comes out of a tackle with two or three players with the ball.  That sort of footballer.  Slow, but skilful.  Hard one to predict.

FPL Prospects:  As we’ve alluded to, we’re not really sure how well Stiepermann will cope with the Premier League.  He’s got a three star rating, as he’s likely to be priced at £5.0m, and could potentially bag a few goals.  He could hold value for Official FPL managers at certain points in the season.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Similar to above, it’s hard to predict what kind of asset Stiepermann will be in Standard Draft scoring leagues, as well as Togga scoring leagues.  We wouldn’t recommend drafting him, but certainly keep an eye on his progress over the first few games of the season.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🇫🇮 Teemu Pukki 🇫🇮

Age: 29

Position: Forward

Appearances: 43

Goals: 29

Assists: 9

18/19 Season:  Pukki has been an absolute revelation this season!  Many Norwich fans were thinking they were heading into the new season without a decent striker, after Pukki arrived on a free transfer from Bronby, and Jordan Rhodes was brought in on loan from fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.  The Finish international had scored 20 and 17 league goals respectively for Brondby in the last two seasons, but many were questioning if he had the quality for the English game; he did spend a season with Celtic in 2013/14, but failed to make much of an impact.  Pukki ended up winning Norwich’s Player of the Season award, picking up the Championship Golden Boot with 28 goals, and featuring in pretty much every version of the Championship Team of the Year selections!!  Pukki spearheaded Norwich’s promotion push, as he pretty much scored every game during the second half of the season!

Premier League Prospects:  Pukki is a natural goal scorer, and considering his form for The Canaries, we expect him to be able to rise to the challenge of the Premier League.  10 to 12 goals for the Finnish striker would be out prediction.  Pukki has shown that he has what it takes to perform extremely well in the Championship, now he’ll be relishing the chance to do it in the Premier League.  Pukki doesn’t look like much of a footballer when you first see him, but he’ll soon show you that he has all the quality.  He’s a hard-working, intelligent striker, who always seems to be in the right place at the right time and possesses pace.

FPL Prospects:  The prospects for Pukki are pretty good in Official FPL.  We would expect him to be priced at around £6.0m, and will offer decent value as a third striker.  Perhaps not one to keep for the whole season, but if Norwich have a good run of fixtures, the Finnish international could provide good value for his price.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Pukki has great prospects in Draft Fantasy Football.  He’s an ideal third striker in any Draft squad; he’s guaranteed to play every game, will be the focal point of the attacks for a team with good attacking instincts, and will pop up with a decent amount of goals.  Pukki may be goal dependent in Togga scoring leagues, however.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🎲 Norwich City Squad Players 🎲

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Michael McGovern 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Age: 34

Position: Goalkeeper

Appearances: 0

Clean Sheets: 0

18/19 Season: The veteran goalkeeper didn’t make a single league appearance for Norwich this season, as he was once again a safe and experienced pair of hands to have on the bench if needed.

Premier League Prospects: Looks like McGovern will be relegated to third choice goalkeeper for next term, as Norwich are actively seeking a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Krul.  The veteran is a perfect fit for a third-choice Premier League shot-stopper.

🇵🇹 Ivo Pinto 🇵🇹

Age: 29

Position: Right Back

Appearances: 3

Goals: 0

Assists: 0

18/19 Season: The former club captain has always performed well for The Canaries, and actually started this season in the side.  Youngster Aarons was given a chance in the side, and never looked back.  Unfortunately this spelled the end for Pinto at Norwich, and he left the club at the end of the season after his contract expired.

Premier League Prospects: Pinto has now left Norwich, after three years at the club.

18/19 Season: Passlack is a talented young player, but he only made one league appearance for Norwich, after joining on loan from Dortmund.  He never got a look in due to the form of Aarons and Buendia down the right hand side.  Might have been different if Aarons didn’t break through.

Premier League Prospects: Passlack will return to Dortmund after his loan period ends.

🇩🇪 Phillip Heise 🇩🇪

Age: 27

Position: Left Back

Appearances: 15 (for Dynamo Dresden)

Goals: 1

Assists: 2

18/19 Season:  Little known German left-back Heise joined Norwich in January 2019, but has not actually made an appearance for the club.  Signed for a minimal fee from Bundesliga II side Dynamo Dresden, Heise will provide back up for established left-back Lewis and was brought in early by Farke to settle into life in Norfolk and to get used to being around Carrow Road.

Premier League Prospects:  Pretty low prospects; Heise has been signed as a back-up player, and now that Norwich are in the Premier League, the chances of him earning game time have decreased.  Heise will feature as a last resort we’re guessing.  Godfrey can play left-back if Lewis is out injured.

FPL Prospects:  Basically non-existent.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Again, non-existent.

Draft Rating: ⭐️

🇨🇭 Timm Klose 🇨🇭

Age: 31

Position: Centre Back

Appearances: 31

Goals: 4

Assists: 1

18/19 Season:  The big Swiss defender has been a great player for Norwich since joining the club in January 2016, whilst the club were in the Premier League.  Klose has stuck with the team through their relegation and rebuilding, and has just signed a new three year contract with the club.  He was a mainstay in the side for the first half of the season, but after suffering an injury around Christmas time, he couldn’t get back in the side after Godfrey performed so well in his absence.

Premier League Prospects:  Klose is currently not considered to be in the best XI, but he could easily work his way into the side if Godrey’s form drops, or Zimmermann gets injured.  The Swiss defender has the quality for the Premier League, but it looks as though he will have to wait for his chance back in the starting XI.

FPL Prospects:  Low prospects due to the question marks over his place in the side.  If he’s valued at £4.0m, and works his way into the team, he could be a great 5th defender for Official FPL sides.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Not much of a draft prospect at the moment, as he’s not considered to be in the best XI.  If he gets in the side, he could be a decent streaming defender, but the likes of Lewis or Zimmermann would be better options (or Aarons if he’s available).

Draft Rating: ⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Grant Hanley 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Age: 27

Position: Centre Back

Appearances: 9

Goals: 1

Assists: 0

18/19 Season:  Much like Klose, Hanley lost his place in the side due to injury, and just couldn’t get back into the team.  The Scotsman is actually the club captain, and has Premier League experience with Blackburn, but he’s going to have to wait for a chance to get back in the side.  Hanley will join the queue behind Klose in order to get back in the side, after making just 9 league appearances for The Canaries last season.

Premier League Prospects:  Not much of a prospect at the moment, as Hanley faces a challenge to get back in the side.  He’s shown glimpses of his quality during his time at Norwich, but he’s currently a fair way down the pecking order.

FPL Prospects: Low prospects at the moment, not one to consider for Official FPL.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Again, not one to consider for any draft league at the moment; perhaps he can be considered if he works his way into the side.

Draft Rating: ⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Kenny McLean 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Age: 27

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 20

Goals: 3

Assists: 6

18/19 Season:  McLean was signed by Norwich in January 2018, but was loaned immediately back to Aberdeen for the remainder of the season.  The 2018/19 campaign was an injury hit one for the Scotsman, but he established himself in the side during the second half of the season.  McLean kept Vrancic out of the side, and scored some important goals during the run-in.  A decent season for the central midfielder, but he’s probably not in The Canaries best XI at the moment.

Premier League Prospects:  Hard to tell with this one.  McLean could do well in the Premier League if he’s given a chance in the starting eleven, but the central midfield spots are certainly up in the air at the moment!

FPL Prospects:  Fairly low prospects at the moment, as there are question marks over McLeans role at Norwich.  Not one for Official FPL managers to consider.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Again, fairly low prospects.  McLean could be of use as a streaming midfielder if he establishes himself in the side.  Leave him for now.

Draft Rating: ⭐️⭐️

🇩🇪 Mortiz Leitner 🇩🇪

Age: 26

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 29

Goals: 2

Assists: 1

18/19 Season:  Leitner is a very talented footballer, arguably Norwich City’s best player.  He’s had a career disrupted by injury, signed up by Dortmund as a teenager, and actually appeared for the club as recently as 2016.  Norwich signed the German midfielder Augsburg in the summer of 2018, after a successful loan spell with the club.  Leitner played 29 time for Norwich this season, but once again injuries were his downfall.  A classy and creative midfielder when he’s fit, the German is a great asset to this Norwich side.

Premier League Prospects:  If Leitner can keep his fitness levels high, and avoid injuries, he has a decent chance of establishing himself in the best XI, and performing well in the Premier League.  The German has the quality to match the higher standard of football, it just remains to be seen if he has the fitness levels.  Leitner is still only 26 years old, so he has time to still make his mark on the game!

FPL Prospects:  Fairly low, due to the question marks over his fitness, and place in the side.  If he can establish himself in the best XI, he might be an option in Official FPL if priced at £4.5m or £5.0m.  One to keep an eye on for sure.

FPL Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Again, fairly low.  Leitner could be an option if he establishes himself… his passing skills could see him score well on Togga scoring.  One to keep an eye on for sure.

🇳🇴 Alex Tettey 🇳🇴

Age: 33

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 30

Goals: 1

Assists: 0

18/19 Season:  Tettey is a bit of a Norwich legend these days.  The 33 year old has been with the club since 2012, and we actually witnessed him score on his debut against Doncaster in the League Cup; 26th September 2012!  The Norwegian international has had a dwindling impact on the side over the last couple of years, and actually didn’t feature much during the second half of this season.  Tettey is a solid, reliable, defensive midfielder, but he’s no longer considered to be in the best XI.

Premier League Prospects:  Tettey will be a great person to have around the dressing room, as he has played in the Premier League with Norwich before.  We wouldn’t expect him to have much impact on the field, however.  A new central midfielder is likely to join in the summer to provide CDM cover for Trybull.

FPL Prospects:  Almost non-existent, Tettey won’t play much, and will likely to priced at £4.5m in Official FPL.

Draft Prospects:  Like above, almost non-existent.  Tettey shouldn’t be picked up in any Draft League.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿  Louis Thompson 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Age: 24

Position: Central Midfield

Appearances: 6

Goals: 0

Assists: 0

18/19 Season:  Thompson was signed by Norwich in 2014, from League One Swindon, but the young midfielder went on to be loaned back to the club on several occasions.  Thompson has suffered huge injuries during his time with Norwich, and has been limited to just 9 appearances during the last three seasons.

Premier League Prospects:  It’s likely that the step up to the Premier League is too much too soon for Thompson, as he hasn’t had a chance to prove himself in the Championship as of yet.  We would expect Thompson to be loaned out, or possible sold, ahead of the new season.  He’s not good enough for this level at the moment.

FPL Prospects:  Almost non-existent, won’t feature much this season.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Todd Cantwell 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Age: 21

Position: Right Midfield

Appearances: 24

Goals: 1

Assists: 2

18/19 Season:  Another academy graduate Todd Cantwell played his first season in the first team this year, and made 24 appearances, and started a fair few games whilst starting XI players were injured or suspended.  Whilst the young winger is a product of the youth academy, but we don’t think he’s up to the task to be honest.  A lot of Norwich fans like Cantwell… we certainly don’t.  He’s shown a bit of skill capable to create chances in the Championship but overall at this stage of his career he isn’t good enough to hold down a regular starting spot in a Championship side.

Premier League Prospects:  The Norwich higher-ups seem to like him, so Cantwell may be in and around the first team this season.  He won’t offer the team very much though, as he often hides up, and places himself in areas of the pitch that he knows he’ll never receive the ball!!!  Hopefully he gets loaned out to a Championship side to continue his development because we genuinely think he has ability and there is a capable footballer in there.  Just at this moment, Cantwell isn’t quite good enough.

FPL Prospects:  Cantwell could offer a little value as a £4.5m 5th midfielder, if he see’s regular game time from the bench, but hopefully that’s not the case!  We’re not fans of this youngster.

FPL Rating: ⭐️

Draft Prospects:  Almost non-existent.  Don’t draft him, or stream him into your side.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Jordan Rhodes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Age: 29

Position: Forward

Appearances: 36 (on loan from Sheffield Wednesday)

Goals: 6

Assists: 1

18/19 Season:  Rhodes joined Norwich on loan from fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, and considering his reputation, most Norwich fans were expecting the Scotland international to lead the line this season.  It turned out that Pukki was an absolute beast, and Rhodes never really got a look in.  Most of his appearances were from the bench, and to be fair to him, Rhodes understood the role he had to play and became a big fans favourite.  When called upon, Rhodes scored crucial goals, either from the bench or on the rare occasions he started.

Premier League Prospects:  Rhodes has actually returned to Sheffield Wednesday now, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Norwich signed him as back-up to Pukki.  They know him, and they trust him, and Pukki will certainly be the main striker next season, so why not bring Rhodes back for his late cameo appearances?  Most recent rumours suggest however that Wednesday want £7m for Rhodes which is about £5m overpriced and definitely not the sort of money City will even consider spending.

🇩🇪 Dennis Srbeny 🇩🇪

Age: 25

Position: Forward

Appearances: 15

18/19 Season:  Srbeny is a little known German forward, who was signed by Norwich in January 2018, after he scored nine goals in fifteen games for Bundesliga 3 side Paderborn.  In the 18 months he’s been with The Canaries, Srbeny has scored two league goals, and has almost exclusively made appearances from the bench.  The German doesn’t have the quality for the Championship, and certainly won’t have it for the Premier League!

Premier League Prospects:  Considering he couldn’t get a game in The Championship, we don’t expect Srbeny to feature much in the Premier League!  He’s likely to be sold or loaned out to a lower league German side.

18/19 Season:  Morris suffered a huge injury during this season, and missed almost the entire season.  During the 17/18 season, the young striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at Shrewsbury.  Morris has potential, but he really need to be playing regular first team football now that he’s 23; he’s unlikely to ever make it at Norwich.

Premier League Prospects:  Morris has already been loaned out for the 19/20 season, as he has joined Rotherham for the season.

♻️  Returning Loan Players ♻️

Age: 26

18/19 Season: Raggett experienced an injury ridden spell at Championship Rotherham last season. The big centre back was injured in September, returning to the side in January, but only managed another 5 appearances before getting injured again.

Premier League Prospects: Unlikely to feature for Norwich this season. Will probably be loaned out once again or sold.

18/19 Season: Husband actually started Norwich’s opening game of the season against Birmingham, but was subbed off after 63 minutes and was soon loaned out to Fleetwood. He made 33 appearances for Joey Barton’s side, but he’s unlikely to be wanted by Norwich. They signed German left back Heise in January to provide competition for Lewis.

18/19 Season: Marshall looked like a decent summer signing from Wolves, but he never really got going for The Canaries. 18/19 Season: Jarvis has basically been injured for the last four years! Once capped by England, Jarvis was a decent signing for Norwich when they were back in the Premier League, but he’s had huge injury problems. Jarvis played 10 games for Walsall in League One, but succumbed to another injury. His contract with Norwich has now expired, and he’s left the club.

💰 Norwich City Transfer Targets 💰

Perhaps the most important thing for Farke this summer, is keeping hold of his best players, rather than signing new ones.  After seeing Fulham spend big, ruin the harmony at the club, and subsequently struggle in the Premier League, Norwich will be even more keen to stick to their current recruitment plan.  Giving youth a chance, and supplementing the squad with “misfits” from European Leagues is likely to continue.

Rumoured Outs:

Player of the season Pukki has been linked with moves to several mid table Premier League clubs, but hopefully he will stay with The Canaries after having the best season of his career, scoring 29 league goals.  His ratio of a goal every 132 minutes shows how valuable he is, and Norwich will be desperate for his form to continue into next season.

Youngsters Aarons and Godfrey have been linked with moves to top Premier League teams, but they have been told to give the club at least one more season to see how things work out.  If they, along with left back Lewis, perform well at the higher standard, and Norwich get relegated, they will be free to leave the club as long as their valuation is met.  This plan should work out for all parties, so hopefully the young defenders stay at Norwich for at least another season!

Rumoured Ins:

The biggest transfer rumour going around Norfolk at the moment is about Norwich bringing in former England number 1, Joe Hart.  Bringing in a player of Hart’s experience would be a big coup for the Premier League newcomers; he has 75 England caps, as well as 441 club appearances, most of which were in the Premier League.  But, we cannot see this one happening, Hart’s wage expectations are likely to be above that of Norwich City’s budget, although he won’t cost Norwich much in terms of transfer fees, as Burnley are likely to want to get rid of him; it doesn’t sit right with the direction Webber and Farke are taking Norwich.  Krul was decent last season, but most Norwich City fans are demanding an upgrade; so it is more likely that Norwich look overseas for a young goalkeeper that no one other than Webber or Farke have heard of.  Croatian youngster Simon Sluga of HNK Rijeka meets this criteria and is the most likely target.

A new centre back was rumoured to be on the cards, as Klose’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season; he has since signed a new deal to remain at the club.  Brentford defender Yoann Barbet had been linked as a possible replacement, as his contract is due to expire, and he has performed well for The Bees this season.  Barbet is a good player and according to reports, City have had their eyes on him for a while, but with Klose, Hanley, Zimmermann, and Godfrey; we can’t see City looking to strengthen centrally but moreover look for backup to Aarons and Lewis.

Elsewhere, Norwich are likely to bring in a defensive minded central midfielder, as Tettey is probably not up to the task in the Premier League due to his age, and youngster Thompson doesn’t have enough experience.  We’re not sure who in particular The Canaries are likely to bring in, although they have been linked with former Chelsea man John Obi Mikel.  We can’t see this one happening though, as it goes against Norwich’s recruitment policy.  The more likely option is to be Kalvin Phillips of Leeds Utd.  There has been plenty of speculation about Phillips, although if he is to leave Yorkshire its more likely to be for an established Premier League side such as Bournemouth.  However don’t write that one off just yet chaps, City have a history of raiding Leeds for players.

We think Norwich are likely to bring in another wide player, as youngster Cantwell is not good enough for the Premier League, and if Hernandez or Buendia suffered injuries or suspensions City look a bit light on wide men.  Kostas Fortounis is the name being banded about at present, the Greek international scored 17 goals and chipped in with 16 assists this season for club side Olympiakos; but again this doesn’t feel right for City.  The most likely targets are Will Vaulks who was the only bright spark in a poor season for Rotherham, and Liverpools Harry Wilson who had a very successful loan spell under Frank Lampard at Derby, scoring 18 goals.  Wilson is unlikely to get any game time at Liverpool and could well be loaned to Norwich to gain Premier League exposure under a manager in Farke renowned for developing young footballers.  Not to mention Farke and Klopp are BFF’s so that could help, as Klopp will trust Farke with this young star.

Update: As we’ve mentioned above, Farke is renowned for developing young players, and City have since brought in Manchester City youngster Patrick Roberts to provide extra competition on the left wing, not Wilson as we were speculating about.  Roberts is likely to oust Hernandez from the side, and provide a pretty potent attacking trio alongside Buendia and Pukki.

Finally up top, with the over inflated valuation of Rhodes we expect City to target a striker over the summer months.  There will be plenty of rumours, one recent one is that of Dwight Gayle from Newcastle having completed a successful loan spell at WBA this season.  But Gayle would neither fit Norwich’s style nor is he the type of player Farke and Webber are likely to want to bring into the squad.  Once again, Webber and Farke will be looking for a £3-5m unknown forward and look to turn him into a profitable asset like Pukki and Buendia.

📚 Conclusion 📚

The players you need to be targeting are undoubtedly Pukki, Buendia, and Aarons.  There are also plenty of attacking options in Vrancic, Stiepermann, Hernandez, and Lewis that you chaps must keep your eyes on.

We are Norwich City fans, yes.  However, there is something really special being built under Stuart Webber and Daniel Farke.  Keep an eye on their transfer dealings this summer as we expect another couple of gems to be unearthed.  This side have the potential to be another Bournemouth or Wolves; and they posses goals which we all know are like gold dust for any Fantasy Football side, draft or otherwise.

If City, and we expect they will, play with the same attacking style that swept the Championship to one side, they could do well and surprise a lot of teams in the Premier League.
